I managed to break a wheel/plastic dial on my exercise bike - this is quite an achievement considering I have only used it three times since we bought it five years ago. I digress.

There was a model number and brand on the side of the bike so I googled it. After two or three attempts I managed to find a picture of the exact model from a website of the Belgian manufacturers. I e-mailed them and they were able to confirm by return that they could supply a replacement, at the same time giving me the price and their bank details. A few e-mails more of clarification (all answered immediately) and I sent them the funds.

And the moral? Firstly, we live in an instant-access information world where one can find most of what one needs through the Internet; and secondly, some companies do understand the importance of speedy response and customer service!

I was astonished at the speed of service I received from an online company this morning. I purchased some vinyl from an online record store - admittedly both myself and the company are in the same city, but still - after paying for my records at 4.45 pm on Thursday evening, the package was marked as 'dispatched' when i checked its status via the website within ten minutes of my purchase. I arrived at work today (Friday) to find the parcel waiting for me. Now that's good customer service!
