One of the biggest regrets for most entrepreneurs is that they did not set up their businesses sooner.
A survey of 250 small business owners carried out by Abbey Business Banking found that a majority of respondents wished they had taken the entrepreneurial leap at an earlier age.
The average age for setting up a business is around 35, but, with the benefit of hindsight, many of the entrepreneurs questioned believed they should have given up their jobs and started their own businesses before the age of 30.
A large number said that they had taken too long deciding whether to continue in full-time employment or to become their own bosses.
The main reason for postponing the decision was to gain enough experience of business life to be sure of making a go of their own enterprises.
Most were junior managers at the time they left to go solo, while very few were senior managers.
