The Department of Trade and Industry has announced that major parts of the European Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) that were due to come into force in August 2005 have been delayed. However, producers should note that the Government does plan to comply with the 13 August date for implementing the requirements regarding the marking of electrical and electronic equipment, including the marking to show whether equipment was put on the market after that date. Useful information aimed at small businesses and covering all aspects of the WEEE Directive can be found on the website of the WEEE Recycling Network. This includes a checklist of products covered by the Directive.
