Acas, the employment relations conciliation service, has said that it has not been called upon to produce a report on the continuing Royal Mail postal dispute. Press reporting had suggested that the organisation had been invited to assess the strike, but Rita Donaghy, the Acas chair, has said this is not the case. She said in a statement: “Acas provides a service to help parties settle large-scale employment disputes. We have a statutory duty to offer to help employers and employee representatives and are highly respected for our impartial and confidential service. We do not produce external reports on ongoing employment disputes. It is our reputation for objectivity and integrity that enables us to be so successful.” Date:19 July 2007
