Over a half of entrepreneurs in the UK clock up working weeks in excess of 48 hours, a new survey has found. This is over the limit set down by the EU. The survey, carried out by Abbey Business Banking, revealed that the average small business owner invests more than 50 hours each week in their work. Some three out of ten of entrepreneurs said that they considered their efforts had an adverse affect on their health. Ian Wilson, managing director of Abbey Business Banking, said: “Entrepreneurs in the UK are working longer and longer hours. It is a testament to their dedication and work ethic that they are prepared to put in the extra effort to ensure their businesses succeed.” He added: “However, working hard comes at a cost and as our research has shown over a quarter of Britain’s entrepreneurs feel their health has suffered due to the amount they are working.” Date:3 October 2007
