A license of IP (Intellectual Property) rights is a grant of permission allowing someone else to make use of a patent, trademark, trade secret, or copyright, or even technical or business "know-how". Title to the IP stays with the licensor, and the license may be exclusive – for example, covering a specific geographical area - or nonexclusive.
There are different points to be aware of with the different types of IP right being licensed. The actual agreements tend to take shape around the particular deal. For example, merchandising agreements involve licensing another business to use your name and reputation to sell their goods.
We can help you to license in a name, or to do a sponsorship deal, as drafting and negotiating commercial agreements is a standard part of our work.
